That's because for some years now there has been a movement afoot in the mental health care field to include a diagnosis called "relational disorder" in the fifth edition of the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), due out in 2013. 

 Relational disorders are defined as "persistent and painful patterns of feelings, behavior, and perceptions involving two or more partners in an important personal relationship." Typically, people suffering from relational disorders have problems with their primary support groups, notably their families.'

Why Anti-Authoritarians are Diagnosed as Mentally Ill

'In my career as a psychologist, I have talked with hundreds of people previously diagnosed by other professionals with oppositional defiant disorder, attention deficit hyperactive disorder, anxiety disorder and other psychiatric illnesses, and I am struck by (1) how many of those diagnosed are essentially anti-authoritarians, and (2) how those professionals who have diagnosed them are not. 

 'Anti-authoritarians question whether an authority is a legitimate one before taking that authority seriously. Evaluating the legitimacy of authorities includes assessing whether or not authorities actually know what they are talking about, are honest, and care about those people who are respecting their authority. And when anti-authoritarians assess an authority to be illegitimate, they challenge and resist that authority—sometimes aggressively and sometimes passive-aggressively, sometimes wisely and sometimes not. 

Some activists lament how few anti-authoritarians there appear to be in the United States. One reason could be that many natural anti-authoritarians are now psychopathologized and medicated before they achieve political consciousness of society’s most oppressive authorities.'

Standard Treatment for Noncompliant Elderly Increases Death 60-70%

'The elderly who are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and are not
compliant, especially those in nursing homes, are now routinely given
antipsychotic drugs. One in three nursing home patients diagnosed with
dementia are drugged. Their rate of death is increased by 60-70%.



Who says antipsychotics increase the death rate so much? The FDA! In a 2005 warning, “Public Health Advisory: Deaths with Antipsychotics in Elderly Patients with Behavioral Disturbances”
and in 2008 with the equivalent warning regarding older “typical”
antipsychotics, the FDA warned that antipsychotics increase the rate of
death by 60-70%.  As many as one in three nursing home residents are
given these drugs.'

'I have spent more than 20 years of my life trying to understand and navigate both the real world and the mental health worlds, often on myriads of prescribed psychiatric drugs. This gave me much confusion and also a “created dependency.” 

Now, at 43, I am way older and wiser. I am more well in thinking and wanting to know what life really is before its too late. I want out of of this vicious cycle. But the mental health system won’t let me. I have yet to really live yet, and am so tired of “sleepwalking” through my life on psychiatric pills! 

Currently, I am under forced outpatient treatment and drugging by the Washington County, Pennsylvania mental health system with the A.C.T. program – “Assertive Community Treatment.” This is a mobile unit that can come out to your house, thus bringing the mental ward to you, with your pills and injections.'

Canadian Judge Rules SSRI Antidepressants Like Prozac Can Cause Children to Commit Murder

'The use of antidepressant and psychiatric drugs, particularly among children, is an extremely risky activity that could have fatal consequences for both the individuals that use them, as well as their friends and family. According to the National Post, a Canadian judge recently ruled that the extreme mind-altering effects of the antidepressant drug Prozac were in large part responsible for causing a 15-year-old boy to thrust a nine-inch kitchen knife into one of his closest friends.

Though the Winnipeg boy that committed the heinous crime had allegedly abused prescription drugs and "experimented" with cocaine long prior to the incident, he had never had a violent or aggressive personality about him, according to reports. It was only when he began taking Prozac, the very thing doctors had given him as a so-called "solution" to his previous illicit drug problems, that he began to rapidly go off the deep end.'

Detroit Mother Maryanne Godboldo Found in Neglect for Refusing to Medicate Daughter with Psychiatric Drugs

 'Detroit mom Maryanne Godboldo, who was subjected to an armed SWAT team assault on her home during an attempted kidnapping by Child Protective Services, has been found in neglect today by a Wayne County juvenile court.

Can Psychedelics Make You Happier?

 Research suggests that psychedelics may be better than antidepressants, which tend to dampen or suppress psychological problems without necessarily curing them. 

'In the last decade, research into the effects of psychedelic drugs on consciousness has become a growing field of study in American academia. Psychologists at UCLA, Johns Hopkins Medical School and NYU, among other places, have published research showing that psychedelics can promote happiness in ordinary people, as well as alleviate depression and anxiety among the terminally ill. The positive effects of taking psilocybin Mike described are similar to many of the case descriptions contained in these studies (though no doubt none of the researchers involved would endorse his actions).

In the fall Charles Grob, a professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at the UCLA School of Medicine, published a study in the leading journal Archives of General Psychiatry finding that people with terminal stage-IV cancer reported feeling dramatically less anxiety after taking a small, measured dose of psilocybin during a carefully administered experiment. Grob and his team checked in with their subjects after three months, and then again after six months; in each case, the subjects reported more benefits as time went on.'
