 What Is Earthing?

'The terms "earthing" and "grounding" are interchangeable. It is simply the act of placing your bare feet on the earth, or walking barefoot. When you do, free electrons are transferred from the earth into your body, and this grounding effect is one of the most potent antioxidants we know of.

Unfortunately, few people ever walk barefoot anymore to experience it.

Hopefully, as more and more people become aware of the importance of being grounded, this will change, or at the very least spawn a much needed change in the way most footwear is made. Synthetic rubber soles disconnect you from the earth. Leather soles do not. So you can still find shoes that allow you to remain grounded without going barefoot.'

'What are the most basic, fundamental recommendations you can think of in terms of how to improve your health and prevent disease?

Eat well. Exercise. Get more sleep.

Sound familiar?  That's what I learned in school and that's what I teach to my patients and clients on a daily basis.  Some might argue other steps like exposure to sunshine and fresh air, stress reduction, quality social interaction, living a purposeful life and even hydrotherapy are equally necessary and fundamental, and I really wouldn't argue against any of them.  

What I would, however, argue for is the inclusion of an additional step; one that, until recently, has been fairly unrecognized, certainly by the conventional medical system, but also by most alternative health practitioners.  What is it?'

Can Earthing Reduce Snoring?



'It’s called “earthing.” What once was perhaps the most natural state of human existence, being “earthed” or “grounded” has become quite rare in our era of rubber soled shoes and insulated living. Simply put, earthing is making sure your body is electrically grounded to the earth. Among it’s many benefits, it turns out that earthing can actually help reduce snoring!


When I first read through my copy of Earthing: The Most Important Health Discovery Ever?, I got hung up on all the sleep benefits of earthing. As a mother who has had a steady 8+ years of regularly interrupted sleep (I’ve been pregnant or nursing this whole time), it’s not hard to imagine why I found all the sleep benefits so appealing. Anything that can improve the quality of the sleep I do get is paramount.


So when my mom suggested that my dad’s snoring is greatly reduced when he sleeps on his earthing sheet, I said “Really? Are you sure? Why is that?”'

Earthing: Health Benefits from being Grounded



'Earthing' or 'grounding' has been getting a lot of attention of late in certain communities, so about a week ago I decided to take a look. Here, in summary is what I've learned.

What is 'earthing'?

Earthing is the practice of connecting the body with earth by touching skin to a conductive material such as grass (preferably wet), wet sand, a river, lake or sea.

Why would you want to do that?


When the body loses contact with the earth it can carry a positive voltage relative to the Earth. Some people believe this is not good for health and wellbeing. Earthing the body returns the voltage to zero which is, supposedly better for us.'

Is Barefoot Contact With the Earth Necessary For Health?

 'Feeling "grounded" is an increasingly uncommon experience in this day and age, and it should be, considering we no longer regularly touch the ground with our bare feet, as nature intended.

It is no great mystery that the human foot was designed, over countless millenia, to be in direct contact with the Earth, the literal and symbolic ground of our being. And the Earth is no inert substance, but rather a living and breathing entity (of which we are but a mere part) capable of infusing us with its life, 'singing the body electric,' as Walt Whitman once mused.

Indeed, the Earth breathes life into us through a continual stream of free electrons...
It is well established, though not widely known, that the surface of the earth possesses a limitless and continuously renewed supply of free or mobile electrons as a consequence of a global atmospheric electron circuit. Wearing shoes with insulating soles and/or sleeping in beds that are isolated from the electrical ground plane of the earth have disconnected most people from the earth's electrical rhythms and free electrons to flow from the earth to the body.

Earthing: The Overlooked "Electroceutical" & Effects on my Lyme Symptoms - Pt 1 and 2




'Earthing might be a better antioxidant than foods and supplements combined. We've insulated ourselves from the earth's unlimited supply of electrons since we began wearing rubber soled shoes in the 1960s.
