Proposition 37 On Truthful GMO Labeling Fails: A Planned Outcome?

'Just yesterday I proposed that it was the corporate facade who spearheaded the NO on Proposition 37 in California. Today I have no doubt this vote was rigged from the start. This was a manipulated and fraudulent voting scheme orchestrated by big business who asserted their deceptive strategies in the State ballot to achieve their strategically planned and measured results.'

What GMOs and Fund-Raising for Disease Have in Common

'No doubt you’ve seen the pink ribbons all over food labels in the grocery store or on fast food products like KFC. These labels are easy to spot on packages, cups, cans, boxes, and other containers of many foods and beverages.

But there’s something else to notice too – a majority of these foods bearing the pink ribbon for cancer awareness are full of harmful, toxic ingredients. Don’t believe me? Just pick up one of these food products and have a look.

Not only are many of these ingredients indecipherable and dangerous, many of them are also from genetically-modified substances.'

Decoding Labels: Oroweat 100% Whole Wheat Bread

'Bread is a contentious subject in the health food community these days. Low-carbers argue that all bread is evil because it’s high in carbohydrates. Paleo dieters argue that bread is evil because it’s made with neolithic grains that your body isn’t adapted to digesting. Fans of Wheat Belly argue that modern wheat is evil because it’s been so hybridized it’s no longer actually healthy for us. Others aren’t against bread, per se, but are against bread containing gluten.

But if you’re a health-conscious bread eater, chances are you stick to whole grain breads. You buy a loaf of sandwich bread that claims to be “Whole Wheat” or “Whole Grain.” You may have even bought Oroweat’s 100% Whole Wheat Bread.'

Nutrition Labels Are a Bad Joke, Designed to Mislead, Not to Inform

Nutrition Label

'There’s been a great deal of focus on nutrition labels lately. In the EU, the question was whether to have the “more complicated” type or ones that look like traffic lights with stop and go symbols, supposedly designed to be easier for the public to understand. And now, McDonald’s has gotten into the act by providing nutrition information about their products.

All of this misses the real issue. Foods are made of ingredients, some natural and some chemical, and those ingredients come from different sources. What we need to know is what’s actually in our foods, not some governmental pseudo-health or public relations agency’s take on it.

There are many ways to look at nutrition, but what could be more important than what’s in the foods we buy, where it comes from, and how it’s grown?'

Many 'All Natural' Foods Are Actually Heavily Processed

By Dr.Mercola

What Does an "All Natural" Label Claim Really Mean?

'Zero. Zilch. Nada. Zip.

The natural food label on a processed food has no standard definition and really no meaning at all. The term is only regulated on meat and poultry, for which an item labeled natural may not contain any artificial flavors, colors or chemical preservatives.

But in the processed food arena, a "natural" product can be virtually anything -- genetically modified, full of pesticides, made with corn syrup, additives, preservatives and artificial ingredients. Most are also heavily processed.

It is because of this very vagueness that 7-Up is able to claim it's "100% natural" and still be within its legal rights. It's also due to this misleading nature that many consumers are fooled into buying foods labeled as "natural" in the belief they're better for their health, when in reality they can be complete junk.

But you can expect that food manufacturers will continue to use natural label claims for as long as possible. Products labeled as "natural" or "sustainable" account for $50 billion annually, or 8 percent of total retail grocery sales, so don't expect them to disappear from your grocery store anytime soon.'

Food Firms Spend Millions to Block Food Health Warning Labels

'The food industry spent more than a billion dollars in its successful campaign to defeat a European labeling plan designed to make it easy for consumers to identify healthy and less healthy food options.

Under the proposed "traffic light" plan, which has already been adopted by some European supermarkets, foods would be marked with a series of prominent green, yellow or red circles representing different key nutrients. A red light would mean that the product should be consumed only occasionally, a yellow light would mean the product could safely be consumed in moderation, and a green light would mean the product was good to consume in quantity.

Concerned that such a plan would turn consumers away from sugary drinks, salty snacks and other foods labeled with a number of "red lights," the food industry poured €1 billion ($1.2 billion) into lobbying the European Parliament to reject the scheme.'

Corporate Threats to Your Food Supply

'Dr. Mercola interviews Dr. Chopra, an insider who was hired by the drug companies and worked with vaccine development in Europe. He has also worked for the Canadian government, in the equivalent of the FDA. He was a senior scientific adviser for what is now Health Canada for 20 years, working primarily in vaccines and antibiotics.'

Dr. Chopra is a very knowledgeable and passionate about the issues threatening the food supply, and his sentiments echo my own very closely.

'As Small Farms Disappear, the Food System is Crumbling

Most “farming” today is nothing like the small farming of our ancestors. Food production on a massive, corporate level has taken over the natural farming practices that thrived for hundreds of years. As Dr. Chopra said:

“Look at our food supply in Canada and the United States since they were established 200-300 years ago until they started to turn into this intensive industrial farming.

Until then, they were the happiest lands anywhere on earth because food was pristine, pure and it was doing well -- and there was a lot of land and water. Everything was good.

And then came the mechanization -- the chemicalization -- and now it’s come to the elimination of the family farm. How has it happened? This last thing that I’m talking about: we now no longer have family farms left, very few and very far in between.”

Those of you who are new to the natural health scene may find it surprising that the modern food system is in danger of collapsing. The food system began its dramatic decline the second the world turned away from the farming practices of our ancestors, and began to attempt to outdo nature with technology.

Our Decrepit Food Factories

Food Industry Is Now Calling Junk Food 'Healthy' - Why Could That Be?

'Smart is the new cool thing. There's a smart car, cities now tout smart growth, and you can buy a smart refrigerator. Now comes another breakthrough: Even your breakfast cereal has gotten smart.

At least that's what we consumers are being told by a group of major food corporations that are hoping to cash-in on the growing public concern about nutrition. Your concern is their concern, they say, so these eager-to-serve marketers have launched a snappy food labeling campaign to guide your nutritional choices. They've designated hundreds of their food products as being not just tasty, zesty and zowie -- but also good for you.'
