'In a Whole Foods store not far from the corporate headquarters, a customer did the unthinkable.  They showed pictures of the rats in the Criigen study to a few other WF customers (all of whom were grateful and asked for the link).  

They had brought their computer with the photos into the store to show management how serious GMOs are because despite being asked for a year, management had not removed the GMO canola oil from the items they make in the store.

'The Senate on Thursday rejected an amendment to the farm bill that would have given states the power to require labels on genetically modified food.


“This is the very first time a bill on labeling genetically engineered food has been brought before the Senate,” said Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (I), who introduced the proposal. “It was opposed by virtually every major food corporation in the country. While we wish we could have gotten more votes, this is a good step forward and something we are going to continue to work on. SOPA/PIPA Battle Rages: Tell Congress We Will Not Accept Censorship

'Even though the shelving of SOPA appears to be a victory, we cannot trust the government to not reintroduce the bill after sprucing it up as a kinder and gentler effort to rob of us our ability to freely disseminate information and speak our minds on the internet without fear of the censor’s truncheon crashing down. After all, in 2010 the government shut down 73,000 web sites under the cover of fighting copyright infringement.

'The new Codex Alimentarius agreement coming out of the latest Codex Commission meeting assures us that if any country decides to voluntarily label GMO foods, it can do so without the threat of World Trade Organization (WTO) legal challenges. In other words, because we want to know what is in our food, and enough pressure has been put on governments to label these toxic substances, the United Nations graciously consents to allow such labeling without fear of global retribution via the WTO. Food Firms Spend Millions to Block Food Health Warning Labels

 

 'The food industry spent more than a billion dollars in its successful campaign to defeat a European labeling plan designed to make it easy for consumers to identify healthy and less healthy food options.

Under the proposed "traffic light" plan, which has already been adopted by some European supermarkets, foods would be marked with a series of prominent green, yellow or red circles representing different key nutrients. A red light would mean that the product should be consumed only occasionally, a yellow light would mean the product could safely be consumed in moderation, and a green light would mean the product was good to consume in quantity.

Concerned that such a plan would turn consumers away from sugary drinks, salty snacks and other foods labeled with a number of "red lights," the food industry poured €1 billion ($1.2 billion) into lobbying the European Parliament to reject the scheme.'
