Fancy a bite? McDonald's burger bought in Utah in 1999 looks exactly the same as the day it was first flipped (even after it spent two years in a COAT POCKET)

Editor's Note: This is beyond unhealthy; It's not even Food!

'If you need another reason to kick the junk food habit this should do it.

A Utah man has unearthed a McDonald's hamburger he bought in 1999 - and the sandwich looks exactly the same as the day it was first flipped. David Whipple kept the fast food meal for a month to show friends how the preservative-packed hamburger would keep its composure.'

Artificial Butter Flavoring Ingredient Penetrates Blood-Brain Barrier

'Scientists are beginning to understand one of life's enduring mysteries - Diacetyl (DA) is a chemical that imparts the buttery flavour in microwave popcorn. It has a disease named after it because many microwave popcorn factory workers exposed to it have developed a lung condition called diacetyl-induced bronchiolitis obliterans or "Popcorn worker's lung". New evidence found that DA intensifies the damaging effects of an abnormal brain protein linked to Alzheimer’s disease.'

6 Healthy Reasons to Eat More Real Cinnamon (Not its Cousin)

6 Healthy Reasons to Eat More Real Cinnamon (Not its Cousin)

'If you live in North America or Europe that jar of "cinnamon" in your cupboard is probably not truly cinnamon at all, but a very similar spice known as cassia or "bastard cinnamon."

True cinnamon is usually labeled "Ceylon cinnamon" and comes principally from Sri Lanka, India, Madagascar, Brazil and the Caribbean. Cassia, on the other hand, is often designated as "Chinese cinnamon" or "Saigon cinnamon" and comes principally from Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Japan and Korea.

Cinnamon is one of the oldest spices and most popular spices, and has been used for millennia both for its flavoring and medicinal qualities. In ancient Egypt, it was used to fill body cavities of corpses as an embalming agent. In ancient Rome it was considered so valuable that the Emperor Nero burned a year's supply on his wife's funeral pyre as proof of his devotion to her.'

White House Chef Says Future Food to Be Made From Chemicals, Not Real Food Ingredients

'As reported on Six One News, a feature of RTE News in Ireland, Yosses and several other food experts showed a live audience how to create various foams, gels, solids, and other food-like textured substances out of chemicals that, when combined, resemble things like lemon souffle and chocolate pudding. These food scientists then shared samples of these laboratory creations with audience members, who were told that the imitation food products are the wave of the future.'

Globalization Hits an Olive Oil Skid

'Fake Food Watch says that between 50-80% of olive oil in the US is fake [and] the USDA is fully aware of this ongoing fraud, yet has failed for years to notify the public and has done precious little to deter the great olive oil hoax.

Some suggest the number may be higher (video). What is certain is that people who have been paying top dollar for imported olive oil have been roundly defrauded. Fake Food Watch suggests people should:

“…. buy California olive oils when feasible ….California produces, by and large, true extra-virgin olive oil,” commented olive oil consultant Alexandra Kicenik Devarenne on a recent America Test Kitchen broadcast. Ms. Devarenne added that the current California industry is not engaged in “the same race to the bottom to produce the cheapest EVOO. U.S. olive oil is produced mainly in California, with smaller volumes coming from Arizona and Texas.”

Is The Food We Eat Killing Us?

Fat kid eating
Indyposted.com

'Are we digging our own graves with our teeth? Is the food that we eat every day slowly killing us? When I was growing up, I just assumed that everything in the grocery store was perfectly safe and perfectly healthy. I just assumed that the government and the big corporations were watching out for us and that they would never allow something harmful to be sold in the stores.

Boy, was I wrong! Today, the average American diet is extremely unhealthy. Most of the foods that we all love to eat are absolutely packed with things that will damage our health. Many of the ingredients that make our foods "taste good" such as fat, salt and sugar can be extremely damaging in large amounts. On top of that, most processed foods are absolutely loaded with chemicals and preservatives.

The next time you go to the grocery store, just start turning over packages and read the "ingredients" that are being put into our food. If you have never done this before, you will be absolutely amazed. In many of our most common foods there are "ingredients" that I cannot even pronounce. Sadly, most Americans have no idea that eating a steady diet of these processed foods will likely leave them massively overweight, very sick and much closer to death.'

New Finding: Consuming Trans Fats Linked To Aggression

http://www.mobileapples.com/Assets/Content/Wallpapers/t4nd_22.jpg

'In the first study of its kind researchers have linked trans fatty acid consumption to increased aggression in humans. Published in the Public Library of Science’s own journal, PLoS, March 5th 2012, researchers at the Dept. of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, reported: “This study provides the first evidence linking dTFA [dietary trans fatty acids] with behavioral irritability and aggression.”'

What’s behind those breakfast cereals?

Editor's note: This video is an industry PR attempt to convince you how healthy sugar coated corn flakes are. You may see through some of the nonsense, but there is another factor - GMO corn! The full article has a commentary on this video.

'While sleepily shaking your cereal flakes into a bowl, and absently pouring the milk over them, have you ever stopped to think, just before taking a big, slurpy bite, “How is this stuff made?” If you went ahead and took the time to find out, you’d be surprised to learn that no matter how healthy and natural the advertising on the packages makes those crunchy bits of wheat, oats, and corn seem, they are actually a highly processed food whose nutrient value is questionable. But that wasn’t how it was supposed to be at all.'

Corporations Have Redefined Food as 'Stuff'

 http://www.e-dinerdesign.com/images/waitress.gif

Countries define food as "any item that is to be processed, partially processed, or unprocessed for consumption."

'Food is defined as "any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for the body. It is usually of plant or animal origin, and contains essential nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals. The substance is ingested by an organism and assimilated by the organism's cells in an effort to produce energy, maintain life, and/or stimulate growth."

In the legal definition, the essence food - what is in it, what it does - is not considered, only what is done to it or with it. These countries define food as "any item that is to be processed, partially processed, or unprocessed for consumption."

Perhaps in recognition of the removal from food of what makes it food rather than any other material, the word "food stuffs" is used, which include any substance to be ingested by humans. This could be "stuff" insufficient to sustain life or even antithetical to it.'

Why You Should Never Eat Farmed Salmon

 http://abcnews.go.com/images/Health/pd_salmon_080304_main.jpg

'Canadian First Nations (as they refer to the native tribes) have been documenting the way the farmed salmon are spreading diseases, tainting an important food source and trashing the ecosystem they rely on. It’s gotten so bad that the BC Supreme Court issued a moratorium last month on new farm licenses.

What’s the problem?'

Packaged “All-Natural” Foods

'Packaged, so-called “all-natural” foods. They’re coming at you — fast and strong. As this recent article in the Chicago Tribune points out, all the big players in processed food manufacturing are jumping on the bandwagon of “all-natural” and “healthy” foods:

The companies that introduced products such as Doritos, Miracle Whip, Butterfinger and the venti caramel Frappuccino now maintain that the future lies in the health and wellness category.

A wave of products expected to hit grocery stores in the next year will raise the ante for shoppers’ attention and compete for their trust. What constitutes “healthy” will ultimately be decided by consumers at the cash register.

Apparently the big wigs are starting to notice that health-conscious consumers are chipping away at their market share. So, they’re making changes. They’re making processed foods “healthier” in the hopes of appealing to this growing segment of the population with the allure of products that “align with organic principles” without actually carrying the heavy price tag of organics.'

Taco Bell Sells Fake Meat. So What? Everybody’s Doing It

'Food companies are like greedy cocaine dealers – cutting food with cheaper ingredients to increase profits. This is nothing new, and it’s not just happening with meat. But first, about that beef with Taco Bell’s “beef.” Vegetable proteins are cheaper than meat and that’s why they are used as extenders by companies like Taco Bell. Texturized Soy Protein is one of the most commonly used extenders. Why is it so cheap? Texturized soy protein is actually a by-product of soy oil, so the food industry gets to double dip while taking advantage of the massive government subsidies bestowed upon the soy industry. Let’s take a look at the other duplicitous tactics the food companies employ in their ingredients.'

I Can’t Believe It’s Not Food! And Other Atrocities

http://www.citysackers.com/images/I%20cant%20believe%20its%20not%20butter%20sprad%2015oz.jpg

'Somehow I am continually astounded at the depths companies will plunge to in order to make a buck. The other night I was watching the news with my husband and the station played an ad for “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter!”

I know all about this product, but it still irritated me to no end to see the smiling, gallavanting star from Will and Grace gleefully extolling the healthful benefits of this insidious product.

“No trans fat” and “less saturated fat than butter” the label boasts.
And yet the bulk of what makes up this product is canola and soybean oil. They also have “light” and “fat free” versions of this substance, as if the original wasn’t artificial enough. And I see many people eating these substances, and claiming how healthy they are.'
