Fast food is good for your waistline" - Really?
'Could fast food actually be good for your waistline? According to a writer from U.S. News Health, fast food may be the right choice if you're looking to slim down and cut calories. The article, titled "Why Fast Food Could Be Good for Your Waistline", describes a made-up scenario where a woman named Sharon made the wrong decision by avoiding McDonald's in an attempt to be healthy. What the author seems to not realize, however, is that fast food is loaded with destructive chemicals and ingredients, and is feeding the continuously increasing rates of various health conditions. So, what could possibly make fast food good weight loss aid?'

Fruit-On-The-Bottom Protein Peanut Butter + How To Make Homemade Peanut Butter
'Between adding peanut butter in smoothies, spreading it on veggies and apples, and of course, baking with it, I can go through a lot of peanut butter in a month. Oh, and I like to eat it with a spoon sometimes too! I recently started to make my own peanut butter to save a bit of money. When you buy your own peanuts and make it at home, it works out to being a bit less costly than store-bought. Plus, it takes less than 10 minutes to whip up. I also enjoy making my own almond butter too. For my other nut butter recipes, see my nut butter category.'

Reductionism: Dinner Goes To Pieces
'This reduction of food into aggregations of elements does not even acknowledge the benefit of the whole ingredient, let alone in a combination of ingredients. Pesto is a Genovese specialty that has become a prolific North American condiment. Filtered through the nutritional reductionist's lens, this would be abbreviated to merely basil and pine nuts and their respective nutritional contributions. According to the USDA nutrition data base, basil has 6% of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin A. Pine nuts are rich in omega 3 fats.
But isn't this traditional, versatile food with its countless variations more than a couple of micronutrients piled atop pasta? A more holistic approach would consider that even strictly nutritionally speaking, pesto is at the very least an ensemble piece and not a pair of individual characters monologuing at opposite ends of the stage. For example, the fat in pine nuts would make more bio-available the fat soluble vitamin A in the basil. The basil's volatile essential oil fraction would prevent rancidity in the fat of the pine nut.'

Why Whole Foods Are More Than The Sum of Their Parts
'What makes an apple so good for us? Is it the vitamin C? Vitamin K or B6? Is it the soluble fiber or the insoluble fiber? Is it the potassium or the phytosterols?
Or is it the apple? What a concept.
Western science is obsessed with deconstructing food, researching and analyzing its component parts, isolating the "active ingredients," repackaging them in pills or powders and prescribing them in daily doses. But according to Annemarie Colbin, Ph.D., author of Food and Healing, this chemistry-based theory of nutrition is completely upside down.'

Is Eating Between Meals Healthy?

Chilli Relleno
Editor's Note: Substitute organic ingredients especially cheese-- raw organic is best as are organic, pastured eggs etc.
'Poblanos are a thin walled fruit with medium heat and smooth dark green skins. Named for the city of Puebla, they are the chillies that are traditionally used for Chilli Relleno (literally stuffed chilli), and historically stuffed with minced meat and coated with eggs.
Here in the States, and the way I’ve most often seen them, they are prepared with cheese – usually Montery Jack and coated in a light batter then either pan or deep fried. Pan frying is a more traditional approach but some restaurants do deep fry them in the interest of speed and efficiency.
A somewhat time consuming process, the chillies are first roasted, peeled, de-seeded, then stuffed with shredded cheese (or whatever) before being dipped in a light egg batter and then fried as described above.'

Carrot Slaw

'I’ve only eaten this by itself so far and it is delicious! To be honest, I don’t unusually think of carrots being able to hold their own but they manage to shine in this yummy recipe. The citrus and cranberries give it a great sweet kick as well so I think I will be putting these on some veggie dogs later this week (and for sure on my usual veggie sandwiches).'

HEALTH BENEFITS OF JAPANESE NOODLES
'Japanese pastas have unique characteristics and health promoting properties that are not found in traditional Western-style pasta. For example, buckwheat, the main ingredient of soba, is a primitive grain that is rarely eaten in the United States. However, buckwheat is the best, and in some cases the only, source of some bio-compounds that are vital to the healthy functioning of cells and enzymes.
This is why adding soba, particularly 100% buckwheat soba, to your diet can have a positive effect on your health.'

Is The Food We Eat Killing Us?
Indyposted.com
'Are we digging our own graves with our teeth? Is the food that we eat every day slowly killing us? When I was growing up, I just assumed that everything in the grocery store was perfectly safe and perfectly healthy. I just assumed that the government and the big corporations were watching out for us and that they would never allow something harmful to be sold in the stores.
Boy, was I wrong! Today, the average American diet is extremely unhealthy. Most of the foods that we all love to eat are absolutely packed with things that will damage our health. Many of the ingredients that make our foods "taste good" such as fat, salt and sugar can be extremely damaging in large amounts. On top of that, most processed foods are absolutely loaded with chemicals and preservatives.
The next time you go to the grocery store, just start turning over packages and read the "ingredients" that are being put into our food. If you have never done this before, you will be absolutely amazed. In many of our most common foods there are "ingredients" that I cannot even pronounce. Sadly, most Americans have no idea that eating a steady diet of these processed foods will likely leave them massively overweight, very sick and much closer to death.'

The FDA Allows Animal Parts, Excrement, Mold In Our Food
'What's in the Rub? Mold, Insect Parts and Rat...
Sure, rub it in—but maybe grind your own spices! The FDA calls them food defects and defines its permissible "Food Defect Action Levels" as listed in their online booklet to be "the levels of natural or unavoidable defects in foods that present no health hazards for humans."[1]
The list of "defects" includes rodent feces (excrement), rodent hair, molds, whole insects, insect parts, beetle eggs, beetle larvae, and more. Most defects are defined as "aesthetic" – really?!

Another way to kill US farmers: Seize their bank accounts on phony charges
'Monsanto’s Food and Drug Administration can’t close down small dairies and private food clubs fast enough, bursting on the scene with guns drawn as if the criminalized right to contract for natural foods we’ve consumed for millennia deserves SWAT attention.
Now, Obama has the Dept. of Justice going after small farmers under the post-911 “Bank Secrecy Act” which makes it a crime to deposit less than $10,000 when you earned more than that.
“The level we deposited was what it was and it was about the same every week,” Randy Sowers told Frederick News. The Sowers own and run South Mountain Creamery in Middletown, Maryland.
Admittedly, when the Sowers earned over $10,000 in February, and learned they’d have to fill out paperwork at the bank for such large deposits, they simply rolled the deposits over to keep them below the none-of-your-fucking-business amount, rather than waste time on bureaucratic red tape aimed at flagging terrorism or other illegal activities.'
