Promises, Promises – False Concessions and the Carrot to Nowhere

 http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m991eeDdOE1r2am86o1_500.jpg

'OK, this one hit me upside the head the minute I saw it. Total lip service. I don’t believe the media and I don’t believe Big Corp.

Whole Foods just announced they’re going to require GMO labeling by 2018. Whoopee. Sorry, but that’s a bogus media ploy to get customers’ trust again after their horrendous sell out to big Agra over the GMO fight, typified by the subsequent illegally crushed proposition for labeling GMOs in California. Where was Whole Foods then? You really think this turn around is anything more than propaganda? They said last time around something to effect of  “We’re just a supermarket” in defense of their lack of backbone.  Don’t forget that. That’s the bottom line.

Worse than that. This kind of thing is designed to pacify and mislead food activists and others trying to bring truth and awareness to this sick world.'

Whole Foods caught in GMO marketing deception, false advertising ...
'The Whole Foods investor relations executive, Libba Letton, says that GMOs are found everywhere, but only when pressed on the issue in front of a camera. Is that seriously her excuse for why Whole Foods sells GMOs, too? Because everyone else does? Really?

This argument is, once again, based on deception because all the other grocery stores across the country don't slap claims on the sides of their stores that say, "NOTHING ARTIFICIAL, EVER." Only Whole Foods makes such a bold claim on the side of its building. And the claim is not merely false, it is a claim made for the purpose of deceiving customers into purchasing something that isn't what they thought it was.

The claim is also knowingly untrue'.

Reductionism: Dinner Goes To Pieces

Nutrition Facts Apple
Apples, Raw, with Skin, USDA

'This reduction of food into aggregations of elements does not even acknowledge the benefit of the whole ingredient, let alone in a combination of ingredients. Pesto is a Genovese specialty that has become a prolific North American condiment.  Filtered through the nutritional reductionist's lens, this would be abbreviated to merely basil and pine nuts and their respective nutritional contributions. According to the USDA nutrition data base, basil has 6% of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin A. Pine nuts are rich in omega 3 fats.

Pesto Healing Properties

But isn't this traditional, versatile food with its countless variations more than a couple of micronutrients piled atop pasta?  A more holistic approach would consider that even strictly nutritionally speaking, pesto is at the very least an ensemble piece and not a pair of individual characters monologuing at opposite ends of the stage.  For example, the fat in pine nuts would make more bio-available the fat soluble vitamin A in the basil. The basil's volatile essential oil fraction would prevent rancidity in the fat of the pine nut.'

Why Whole Foods Are More Than The Sum of Their Parts

Why Whole Foods Are More Than The Sum of Their Parts

'What makes an apple so good for us? Is it the vitamin C? Vitamin K or B6? Is it the soluble fiber or the insoluble fiber? Is it the potassium or the phytosterols?

Or is it the apple? What a concept.

Western science is obsessed with deconstructing food, researching and analyzing its component parts, isolating the "active ingredients," repackaging them in pills or powders and prescribing them in daily doses. But according to Annemarie Colbin, Ph.D., author of Food and Healing, this chemistry-based theory of nutrition is completely upside down.'

Whole Foods Adds Creepy Warning Stickers To Their Raw Juices

Whole Foods: Raw Foods May Make You Seriously Sick

'First, I was a bit incredulous! "Really?? I just spent a good chunk of the remainder of my last paycheck buying a presumably healthy drink for my family, and I’m being told that it could make us terribly ill??"

Second, angry: "Good lord. I can buy genetically engineered (GE) food in this country (which should bear the skull and crossbones), without any label warning me of this fact, but I can’t buy an organic raw juice without being told that it may contain 'harmful bacteria’ and could cause serious illness in my child because it was not pasteurized????"'

Fad Diets Are Out - Eaters For Health Who Focus On Non-GMO, Organic and Toxic-Free Foods Are In

'A wave of highly informed seekers of clean and healthy food is taking over the information highway and leaving yo-yo and fad dieting methods in the dust. They are representing a new generation of educated consumers who seek not only to maintain a healthy body, but supercharge their longevity and well-being with foods which are free of toxins and genetically modified organisms (GMO).

They do not necessarily fall into any specific category whether vegetarian, fishetarian, vegan, raw or any other known pattern. They're simply interested in eating clean, fresh, unadulterated foods that agree with both their palate and physiology.'
