Depression: Your brain on sugar

'You've no doubt seen the television ads warning "this is your brain on drugs". These public service announcements are designed to be visually shocking thereby discouraging youth drug abuse by comparing the brain to an egg and a fried egg in a pan to a brain on drugs.

The same can be said about the effects of sugar on the brain. In the case of sugar, however, the effects are marked by a high risk of long term mental illness like depression rather than a brief yet dangerous, drug induced high.

Depression is at epidemic proportions in our modern society. Even children are not immune with some estimates putting 1 in every 8 teenagers as clinically depressed.'

Antidepressants Could Make Your Brain Bleed, Cause Hemorrhagic Strokes

http://naturalsociety.com/wp-content/uploads/pillsspilling-235x147.jpg

'Thickened arteries, heart disease, depression, suicide, and now, we can add bleeding of the brain to the long list of side effects of antidepressants. Though the risk is admittedly very small, researchers declared on Wednesday that selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) may raise the risk of hemorrhagic strokes, which happen when the brain bleeds.
SSRIs include a wide variety of common antidepressents, including Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, and Paxil. These drugs are also linked to an increased risk of stomach bleeding.'

Anti-Depressants Killing Sex Drive, Triggering Suicide

'A Recent study on antidepressants has shown that the drugs have some serious side effects: those taking certain prescriptions could lose their sex drive. It sounds like the whole nation’s sexuality is under a threat as, according to the statistics, one in ten Americans takes antidepressants.'

Antidepressant Drugs: He Murdered a Friend After Taking Prozac

'A Canadian judge has ruled that a teenage boy murdered his friend because of the effects of Prozac. The ruling will not be appealed. The decision has revived the debate regarding the widespread prescription of antidepressants to young people.

Justice Robert Heinrichs ruled that the 15-year-old boy was under the influence of the medication when he stabbed and killed a close friend. He was sentenced to 10 months on top of the two years he had already spent in jail. "Prozac is meant to curb the effects of depression, but Justice Heinrich concluded it set off a steady deterioration in the young murderer's behavior,"

CCHR1 reports: "He had become irritable, restless, agitated, aggressive and unclear in his thinking," the judge said. "It was while in that state he overreacted in an impulsive, explosive and violent way. Now that his body and mind are free and clear of any effects of Prozac, he is simply not the same youth in behavior or character." '

Antidepressants Useless: FOIA Request Gets Data That Proves It

'It’s bad enough that antidepressants don’t work. But the fact that Big Pharma has known all along has now been proven. It took a Freedom of Information Act request to get the data, but now that we have it, there is no way that the mass use of antidepressants can possibly be justified, especially in light of the massive amount of harm they do.

Irving Kirsch of Harvard Medical School has studied the placebo effect for over 30 years. He requested the data for studies that had not been published. When those results were added in, almost no benefit could be shown for antidepressants.'

Taking this if you’re over 65 could kill you!

'If you're over 65, don't tell your doctor that you're feeling a little
run down. You'll walk out of his office with a prescription for a common
drug you probably think is harmless. But studies show these drugs don't
work any better than a placebo. Plus -- they're far more dangerous. In fact, if you're over 65, taking one just might kill you!'

Big Pharma's Latest Shady Ploy to Sell Depression Drugs That People May Not Need

The drug industry is coming up with ever more clever ways to pump Americans full of drugs they may not need -- and that may not even work.

'The discovery that many people with life problems or occasional bad moods would willingly dose themselves with antidepressants sailed the drug industry through the 2000s. A good chunk of the $4.5 billion a year direct-to-consumer advertising has been devoted to convincing people they don’t have problems with their job, the economy and their family, they have depression. Especially because depression can’t be diagnosed from a blood test.'

Antidepressants Increase Death Rate: Non-Pharma Funded Research

Caduceus with Death Head

Huge numbers of older men are dying from the use of antidepressants. A PLoS ONE study documents the extent of the carnage.

'A shocking study that should have received serious attention from the press and doctors seems to have been ignored. It documents that the death rate of depressed people who take antidepressants is, on average, 1.6 times greater than those who don't take them.'

'The respected journal, PLoS ONE, published the study in June 2010. It will come as no surprise that there was no pharmaceutical money funding the study. Performed in Australia, the study followed 5,276 men aged 68-88. The claim that depression is a deadly disease is true. The death rate of those diagnosed as depressed is significantly greater than others, and that mortality increases with increasing severity. Those points were the authors' focus. However, the study also shows that the men who are depressed and take trycyclic, SSRI, or any other antidepressants die at a significantly greater rate than those who don't.'

The List of Terrifying Antidepressant Drug Side Effects Grows

'Depression—or described another way, "unrepaired emotional short-circuiting"— can cause far more profound negative health consequences than all the damaged food and toxins you expose yourself to daily.
Psychiatric drugs kill 42,000 people every year—that's 12,000 MORE people than successfully commit suicide due to depression! And the death count continues to rise.
Antidepressants are the largest category of psychiatric drugs. It wouldn't be so bad if antidepressants were harmless sugar pills, occasionally showing benefit simply because you believe they will work.
But in addition to being ineffective, they are far from harmless and are now associated with many serious health problems:'

Common drugs increase risk of stroke and death

'Out of the 136,293 women in the Women's Health Initiative, the ones taking SSRIs like Prozac and Zoloft were 45 percent more likely to have a stroke and 32 percent more likely to die, compared to those not taking the drugs.'

Depression Breakthrough: A Proven "Better Than Drugs" Solution with Positive Side Effects

antidepressants 300x300 Antidepressants Linked to Heart Defects in Newborns

 By Dr. Mercola

'Today’s Approach to Mental Health = Drugs So what happened between 1974 and today to make the prognosis of depression go from one with a positive outcome to one that essentially disables you for life? You don’t need a medical degree to figure it out. Just turn on your TV, and what do you see? Advertisements that all but hypnotize you into believing that this drug or that will help you feel better – especially if it turns out that you’re one of the two-thirds of people on antidepressants who aren’t getting better.

'As Whitaker points out in his interview with me, that’s the Abilify ad, which basically is telling you to step up onto the next rung on the psychiatric drug ladder and add an antipsychotic drug, because what they’re giving you on the lower rung – antidepressants – don’t work. In his research, Whitaker has conclusively shown that in most cases these drugs work no better than a placebo – and can also have serious side effects, including causing even more serious mental disorders than the one you’re being treated for!'

Why Antidepressants Don't Work for Treating Depression

How We have Been Deceived by the Antidepressant Hoax

by Dr. Mark Hyman

'Drug companies are not forced to publish all the results of their studies. They only publish those they want to. The team of researchers that reported their findings in The New England Journal of Medicine took a critical look at all the studies done on antidepressants, both published and unpublished. They dug up some serious dirt ...

The unpublished studies were not easy to find. The researchers had to search the FDA databases, call researchers, and hunt down hidden data under the Freedom of Information Act. What they found was stunning.

After looking at 74 studies involving 12 drugs and over 12,000 people, they discovered that 37 of 38 trials with positive results were published, while only 14 of 36 negative studies were published. Those that showed negative results were, in the words of the researchers, "published in a way that conveyed a positive outcome."

That means the results were twisted to imply the drugs worked when they didn't.'
