5 Clues You Are Addicted To Sugar

'Most of us have felt the urge, the unstoppable craving driving us to seek out something sweet and devour it in a flash. That uncontrollable yen for cookies, cake or ice cream or that whole basket of bread calling to us to finish it off. Why do you overeat?

Why does that cookie have such power over you, even though you know it will make you fat and sick? Is it an indication of your moral weakness, lack of will power, or is it a powerful hardwired brain response over which you have little control?

Debate has raged recently about whether junk food, the hyper-processed, hyper-palatable food that has become our SAD (standard American diet) is addictive in the same way that heroin or cocaine is addictive. A new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that, in fact, higher sugar, higher glycemic foods can be addictive.'

ED NOTE: Don't be confused. The above actual flyer/poster is an example of how the sugar industry tries to sweet-talk us into consuming more sugar.

'Every now and then I come across an article so important that I wish I could have everyone in the world read it.  I think to myself, “My God, if everyone read just this, imagine how much suffering could be avoided.  Imagine the far reaching effect this could have.  Just imagine.”

Well, you may say I’m a dreamer.  But I’m not the only one.

I say this because I read just such an article yesterday morning.  The title of the article is “The Cure for Diabetes”.  And I want you to read it.  And then I want you to share it with someone you know who’s been affected by diabetes.  Put it on your Facebook page.  Blast it out to the Twitter universe.  Just share it with as many people as you can.'

The #1 Missed Opportunity to Boost Your Immune System

'You know the drill: You wake up with a sore throat and stuffy nose. So you dissolve a couple of Emergen-C packets in your water bottle, snuff some Afrin, and suck a few menthol cough drops. If you keep up with the latest buzz about immune boosters, you might even swallow some maitaki mushroom or astralagus extract.

Maybe you keep the cold at bay, and maybe you don’t. Which ever the case, you know that you can expect this routine on a seasonal basis. But why do you regularly get sick if you eat your fruits, veggies and acai berries?

Because our immune system doesn’t start with us. It starts with the creatures who live inside of us!

The Sugar and Alzheimer's Connection

'Egged on by massive food-industry marketing budgets, Americans eat a lot of sugary foods. We know the habit is quite probably wrecking our bodies, triggering high rates of overweight and diabetes. Is it also wrecking our brains?
That's the disturbing conclusion emerging in a body of research linking Alzheimer's disease to insulin resistance—which is in turn linked to excess sweetener consumption. A blockbuster story in the Sept. 3 issue of the UK magazine The New Scientist teases out the connections.'

Depression: Your brain on sugar

'You've no doubt seen the television ads warning "this is your brain on drugs". These public service announcements are designed to be visually shocking thereby discouraging youth drug abuse by comparing the brain to an egg and a fried egg in a pan to a brain on drugs.

The same can be said about the effects of sugar on the brain. In the case of sugar, however, the effects are marked by a high risk of long term mental illness like depression rather than a brief yet dangerous, drug induced high.

Depression is at epidemic proportions in our modern society. Even children are not immune with some estimates putting 1 in every 8 teenagers as clinically depressed.'

Slay the Sugar Monster in Four Doable Steps

'I’m happy to say that my sugar addiction days are long behind me and while I do still look longingly at a box of Dunkin Donuts, I pass them by the vast majority of the time when they are available at a party or meeting. While I do give in and eat one bite sized munchkin from time to time, I have found the hard way (refined sugar gives me such a nasty headache!) that choosing to eat none at all is far easier than indulging even just a bite or two!

So, how did I do it? How did I slay the sugar monster and keep it at bay for so many years?

Here’s the protocol. I’m sure there are other approaches that would work just fine too. Here’s what worked for me and has enabled me to stay sugar addiction-free for many years.'

Sugar is Toxic

Neotame: 13,000 Times Sweeter Than Sugar And Even More Toxic Than Aspartame

'In the event that the public becomes too informed and savvy about toxic additives in our food supply, what's a multi-billion dollar industry to do? The first step is to create another more toxic version of the additive. The second step is to collude with regulatory authorities such as the FDA to convince the public that the new, more toxic additive is safe.

The third and final step is to prevent the toxic additive from being listed on any ingredient labels. From the folks that brought us Aspartame, meet Neotame, a deadly sweetener that you'll never see on a label because...well that's just the way the FDA wants it.'

'Tis The Season to Gorge on Sugar?

How did you do this weekend? Lots of sugar and processed food? Feeling bloated, tired, overstressed, or sick?

We all know that sugar is bad for us. We all grew up being told - don't eat too much or you'll get sick. Many people enjoy the flavor of sugar but don't really consider themselves to be addicted to it. I recently had the pleasure of speaking with my good friend, Samantha Taylor. Samantha is a fitness guru and renowned sugar addiction specialist.

When you hear about the symptoms of sugar addiction, you might find that they hit pretty close to home, so make sure you stay tuned this week, because I will be talking about the detriments of sugar and exposing sugar addiction for what it really is. I've even got a quiz for you to take to help identify whether sugar addiction is part of your problem.'

The One Life-Saving Low-Carb Secret You Never Hear About

http://www.palomar.edu/library/displays/October2002/Sugar%20skull.jpgEditor's note: The type of carbs referred to in this article are processed carbs of bleached flour and regular white rice, including sugar, not whole grains and organic fruit.

'When you go on a low-carb diet, you're usually trying to do one of two things. Either you want to lose weight. Or you want to lower your blood sugar.

But there's a third reason why you should cut back on carbs. And this is something you never hear people talk about...not even doctors. But it could save your life.'

Beat Sugar Addiction NOW!

 http://www.usafutures.com/sugar_trading_broker.jpg

 By Dr Jacob Teitelbaum MD

Are you a sugar addict?

'If the answer is yes, you are not alone.
The average American has 140 to 150 pounds of sugar per person of sugar added to their diets each year. Another 18 percent of our calories come from white flour (which acts a lot like sugar in our bodies). Eating almost twice our weight in sugar and white flour each year, it's not surprising that we have become a nation of sugar addicts. Like many other addictive substances, sugar may leave you feeling a bit better for a few hours, but then wreaks havoc on your body.

In our new Beat Sugar Addiction NOW! (BSAN) book, we describe the four main types of sugar addicts. In each type, there are different forces driving the addiction, and in all four types the excess sugar leaves people feeling much worse overall. By treating the underlying causes that are active in your type of addiction, you will find that not only do your sugar cravings go away, but you also feel dramatically better overall.'
