How To Prepare For The Difficult Years Ahead

http://www.pakalertpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/2680315735_e371a7f623.jpg

'How should people prepare for the difficult years that are coming?  I get asked about that a lot.  Once people really examine the facts, it is not too hard to convince them that an economic collapse is coming.  But once they accept that reality, most of them want to know what they can do to prepare themselves and their families for the hard times that are ahead.

Well, the truth is that it does not have to be complicated.  Many of the things discussed throughout this article are things that most of us should be doing anyway.  Now is not the time to be splurging on luxuries or expensive vacations.  Now is not the time to be going into large amounts of debt.  Instead, we all need to get back to the basics and we all need to do what we can to become more independent of the system.'

Dude, That Isn’t Wax On Your Apple!

'Fancy yourself a vegetarian or vegan?

Think that the label that says “organically grown” has anything to do with the packaging, storage, and transport of that product to stores?

What if I told you that cow, pig, and chicken collagen is now used in place of wax on your fruits and vegetables, among many other  things much worse than you can probably imagine?

And what if then I told you, as with most atrocities that happen now-a-days, that this is all approved by the FDA…'

Consciousness: What You Don't Know Might Kill You

monsanto

'Enlightenment consciousness comes from meditation or some other practiced ability to observe and focus attention. However, when it comes to your physical consciousness, such as how emotional and mentally astute you are and how healthy you are on a cellular level, the answer might surprise you.

The Eastern sciences, such as Indian or Tibetan Ayurveda and Chinese medicine, have a very clear-cut and direct answer to this last aspect of consciousness. These ancient sources of wisdom say that the food you eat is the foundation upon which your emotional, mental and physical well-being is based upon. Ayurveda has a very succinct term for the physical body. It is referred to as the "Food Sheath."'

Confessions of a former Big Food executive

http://foodfreedom.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/food-democracy-now.jpg

' “A few weeks ago, I learned of a relatively new blog about food industry deception, but with an interesting twist. The blog’s author is Bruce Bradley, who spent over 15 years as a food marketer at companies like General Mills, Pillsbury, and Nabisco. He has since, in his words, “become more educated about the risks and environmental impact of eating processed foods,” and is now a CSA enthusiast.'

Gamma-Irradiated, Virus-Sprayed Frankenfoods: Why We Can't Afford NOT to Buy Organic

'There is a profound misunderstanding in the mass market today about the value of certified organic food.  The question is not whether the 30% or more you pay at the register for an organic product is really worth the added vitamin, mineral and phyto-nutrient content you receive.

Even though organic food does usually have considerably higher nutrient density, it is not always the positive quality of what it contains that makes it so special. Rather, it is what you know the organic food does
not contain, or what has not happened to it on its journey to your table, that makes buying organic a no-brainer to the educated consumer.  Let me explain.'

Occupy the Food System!

'In the past few weeks, the U.S. Food Movement has made its presence felt in Occupy Wall Street. Voices from food justice organizations across the country are connecting the dots between hunger, diet-related diseases and the unchecked power of Wall Street investors and corporations (See Tom Philppot’s excellent article in Mother Jones).

This is very fertile ground.

On one hand, the Food Movement’s practical alternatives to industrial food are rooted at the base of our economic system. Its activities are key to building the alternative, localized economies being called for by Occupy Wall Street. On the other hand, Occupy provides a space for the Food Movement to politicize its collective agenda and scale-up community-based solutions by changing the rules that govern local economies.'

‘No Food Rights’ Judge quits to work for Monsanto law firm

By Rady Ananda

'The Wisconsin judge who recently ruled that we have no right to own a cow or drink its milk resigned to join one of Monsanto’s law firms.
Former judge Patrick J. Fiedler now works for Axley Brynelson, LLP, which defended Monsanto against a patent infringement case filed by Australian firm, Genetic Technologies, Ltd. (GTL) in early 2010.'

Food rights WAR...

'I've been fond of telling whomever will listen that the U.S. is  in a war over food rights. But I must amend that. We're in a guerrilla war over food rights.  There's an important distinction.
A war implies that two sides are sort of evenly matched. But it's pretty obvious that the U.S. government and its financially dependent states possess overwhelming firepower, and aren't afraid to use it on small farms and consumers alike.'

Family Farm Heroes: Interview with John Kinsman

'The Center for Media and Democracy's Food Rights Network hears from John Kinsman, local dairy farmer and co-founder of the Family Farm Defenders, on the rocky pastures of his farm, his history of activism since the early 1970s and his work for food sovereignty at home and abroad.'

15 Food Companies that Serve You ‘Wood’

'Are you getting what you pay for on your plate? The recent class-action lawsuit brought against Taco Bell raised questions about the quality of food many Americans eat each day. Chief among those concerns is the use of cellulose (read: wood pulp), an extender whose use in a roster of food products, from crackers and ice creams to puddings and baked goods, is now being exposed. What you're actually paying for -- and consuming -- may be surprising.'

The Six Most Horrifying Lies The Food Industry is Feeding You

'If there's one thing in the world the food industry is dead set against, it's allowing you to actually maintain some level of control over what you eat. See, they have this whole warehouse full of whatever they bought last week when they were drunk that they need to get rid of -- and they will do so by feeding it all to you. And it doesn't matter how many pesky "lists of ingredients" and consumer protections stand between you and them.'

The Cause Of Riots And The Price of Food

http://standeyo.com/NEWS/11_Food_Water/11_Food_Water_pics/110116.food.crisis.jpg

If we don't reverse the current trend in food prices, we've got until
August 2013 before social unrest sweeps the planet, say complexity
theorists

'What causes riots? That's not a question you would expect to have a simple answer.

But today, Marco Lagi and buddies at the New England Complex Systems
Institute in Cambridge, say they've found a single factor that seems to
trigger riots around the world.

This single factor is the price of food. Lagi and co say that when it
rises above a certain threshold, social unrest sweeps the planet.'

Food, Control and the Growing Police State

 http://thanksalotobama.com/thanksobblog/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/food-police.jpg

'Food has always been a tool the elite have used to control the masses. When you control the food supply, you control everything, even life and death. A starving man is more likely to sell his soul for a potato then someone with a full tummy. The relatively free market of food production and distribution that has been in place in this nation for a few centuries now has led to unrivaled prosperity.

Food can, in fact, be grown for practically nothing if you have the land, the time and can afford to buy just a few heirloom seeds to grow the organic vegetables necessary for good health. This will save you money, is better for you than grocery store vegetables which may be genetically modified or may contain unwanted chemicals, and helps you to become less dependent on the state for your survival.'

Corporate Water World

'Pharmaceutical giant Merck has become the most recent multinational corporation to endorse the United Nations CEO Water Mandate, an initiative that was awarded the Public Eye Greenwash Award.

Public Eye described the Mandate as a club of corporations that profit financially from water as a primary resource while exhibiting "irresponsible and damaging behavior." Merck is just the latest corporation to join the ranks of Nestlé, Coca-Cola, Dow Chemical, and a host of other environmental offenders.'

Food Crisis and the Global Land Grab

Big Ag Wants To Make It a Crime to Expose Animal Abuse at Factory Farms

Lawmakers in Florida and Iowa have introduced bills to establish criminal penalties for going undercover at agricultural facilities and simply taking pictures.

'What do Florida and Iowa have in common when it comes to animal agriculture? They've both been hot spots, past and present, for the movement to combat some of the worst abuses in industrial agribusiness. And now the factory farming industry is fighting back in both states—and their latest methods represent their biggest overreach yet.'

Corporations contaminating agriculture

'While Homeland Security continues to claim that we must not centralize agricultural production because some terrorist might then poison vast quantities of our food supply, the USDA and FDA continue to rig the system in favor of corporate agricultural producers who are doing that very thing.  Maybe they get away with this because what these global corporations are producing can’t really be classified as food, or at least not as food we would recognize as fit for human consumption.

Let me make this perfectly clear: there is no unnamed terrorist in a cave on the other side of the world salivating over the idea of contaminating a corn field in Iowa.  We know who the terrorists are, and they all have the word, “Corporation” attached to their names.  And they aren’t in caves either; many have very nice and spacious offices right inside the USDA and FDA.'
