Chile: Psychiatrist Leads Crusade To Legalize Marijuana

DrMiltonFlores(DrMarijuana-Chile)

Editor's Note: Gotta love this shrink! Dr. Marijuana, do you make international house calls? It's about time mainstream Doctors started using REAL medicine.

'A Chilean psychiatrist known as "Dr. Marijuana" has earned notoriety in his South American nation for his crusade to legalize cannabis.

Dr. Milton Flores, 58, describes cannabis as "a tool and a medicine," reports Rafael Romo at CNN. He says he's used cannabis for years to treat patients with conditions including depression and anxiety -- and he's also smoked pot himself, for 44 years.

Flores is considered Chile's main advocate for cannabis legalization. He also favors legalization of other "entheogens" (psychoactive plants), including peyote, ayahuasca and San Pedro cactus. All were used by local shamans and healers well before the arrival of Europeans in the 16th century.'

New Study: Vaporized Marijuana is a Safe and Effective Pain Treatment

 http://static.ddmcdn.com/gif/marijuana-leaf.jpg

'When we talk about the medicinal benefits of marijuana, those who disapprove of its use tend to roll their eyes. But the fact is, this powerful plant has numerous potential applications in healthcare and pain management in particular. A new study has once again demonstrated that the vilified plant can safely and effectively treat general pain along with the painful symptoms of neuropathy.

Neuropathy is damage to the nervous system – particularly the peripheral nervous system (not including the brain and spinal cord). It is characterized by pain and numbness especially in the hands and feet, and is often the result of diabetes. Neuropathy can also be caused by injuries, toxic exposure, infections, and more.'

Hemp, Cannabis, Reefer Madness, the Logging Industry and Big Pharma

'Reefer Madness was a politically motivated campaign produced by the logging industry to destroy hemp farming within the U.S.  By psychologically conjuring dark images of Marijuana smoking zombies to waft through the fabric of the collective mind; the logging cabal’s, unsubstantiated, claims succeeded in destroying the hemp farms, while, unto this day, the stigma of the ‘lunatic’ pot smoker continues to pervade and provoke the public mind. If anything, the reefer madness propaganda piece depicted in above link, probably better characterizes the tragedy of alcoholism more than it does those the authors intended to slander.

The pharmaceutical industry - officially sanctioned government dope pushers - would rather pedal, sell and breed their own form of addicts, with its more dangerous brand of ‘serotonin uptake inhibitors’ Haldol, Zoloft, Paxil  amongst many others, have already been linked to suicides and school shootings.'

Powerful Court Quietly Takes Marijuana Case That Could Shatter Federal Prohibition Laws

'“Based on evidence currently available, the Schedule I classification is not tenable,” Grant wrote in the 2012 issue of the Open Neurology Journal . “It is not accurate that cannabis has no medical value, or that information on safety is lacking. It is true cannabis has some abuse potential, but its profile more closely resembles drugs in Schedule III.”

The DEA rejected the petition in June 2011. Administrator Michelle Leonhart declared that marijuana had no accepted medical use, because no form of it has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The Department of Health and Human Services had previously concurred that it had a high potential for abuse, because an estimated more than 14 million people get high illegally at least once a month.'

A Marijuana Revolution in the Making on Election Day

'As we approach November, the leading Democrat and Republican presidential candidates remain conspicuously, though predictably, silent regarding the question of marijuana law reform. By contrast, much of the public and the mainstream media can’t stop talking about pot politics. That’s because voters in six states this November 6 will have their say on the subject. If present polls hold, federal officials on November 7 will have little choice but to acknowledge that they have a full fledged reefer rebellion on their hands.'

Is there Really a Difference Between Legal and Illegal Drugs?

policewarning1 210x131 Is there Really a Difference Between Legal and Illegal Drugs?

'There is a new ‘war on drugs’ in this day and age. Everybody knows the dangers and risks of illegal drugs as well as addiction and fatal injury, but it may be surprising for some to discover that some of the most dangerous drugs are not the illegal, but the legally prescribed pharmaceuticals being perpetuated on a daily basis.'

Ten Years After Decriminalization, Drug Abuse Down by Half in Portugal

'Drug warriors often contend that drug use would skyrocket if we were to legalize or decriminalize drugs in the United States. Fortunately, we have a real-world example of the actual effects of ending the violent, expensive War on Drugs and replacing it with a system of treatment for problem users and addicts.

Ten years ago, Portugal decriminalized all drugs. One decade after this unprecedented experiment, drug abuse is down by half.'

CNN Lies: 'Marijuana has 70% More Cancer Causing Agents Than Cigarettes'

People with Psychosis Who Use Marijuana Have 2-1/2 Times Lower Death Rate

victims of marijuana

The more significant point of the study, which it never discusses, is that it demonstrates that psychiatric drugs are killing people at a rate as much as 13½ times the rest of the population!

'Marijuana has often been demonized as causing schizophrenia, though a cause-and-effect connection has never been shown. Now, though, a new study published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research has documented that people diagnosed with schizophrenia who use marijuana—also called pot or cannabis—live longer than those who don’t, and alcohol use has no impact on lifespan. The authors concluded:
To our knowledge, this is one of the first studies to examine the risk of mortality with cannabis and alcohol in people with PD (psychotic disorders). This interesting finding of decreased mortality risk … in cannabis users is a novel finding and one that will need replication in larger epidemiological studies.'

Total Pathway to Cannabis Legalisation

The Top Five Special Interest Groups Lobbying To Keep Marijuana Illegal

'Last year, over 850,000 people in America were arrested for marijuana-related crimes. Despite public opinion, the medical community, and human rights experts all moving in favor of relaxing marijuana prohibition laws, little has changed in terms of policy.

There have been many great books and articles detailing the history of the drug war. Part of America’s fixation with keeping the leafy green plant illegal is rooted in cultural and political clashes from the past.

However, we at Republic Report think it’s worth showing that there are entrenched interest groups that are spending large sums of money to keep our broken drug laws on the books:'

War Crimes: Suppressing Scientific Study of Cannabis is a Shocking Admission of Ulterior Motives

Cannabis Calendar

'Kush Magazine explains how despite having a patent on the medical use of cannabinoids and maintaining a monopoly on the supply of marijuana for research, the federal government continues to block research that could make marijuana into a medicine.

There has been a virtual ban on scientific research on marijuana since the La Guardia Committee report came out in 1944. In this scientific study, commissioned by New York Mayor Fiorello La Guardia in 1939 to study the effects of marijuana, La Guardia tricked Harry Anslinger, the head of the FBN (Federal Bureau of Narcotics) into supplying marijuana for his team of scientists and physicians to study.

During this 5-year study the researchers disproved many of the government’s accusations against marijuana. Harry Anslinger condemned the results of this study as unscientific, but he knew that he could never again let scientists study marijuana.

This was the beginning of prohibition on the truth.'

Why Can’t You Smoke Pot? Because Lobbyists Are Getting Rich Off of the War on Drugs

'John Lovell is a lobbyist who makes a lot of money from making sure you can’t smoke a joint. That’s his job. He’s a lobbyist for the police unions in Sacramento, and he is a driving force behind grabbing Federal dollars to shut down the California marijuana industry. I’ll get to the evidence on this important story in a bit, but first, some context.'

Medical Marijuana

'No one from the federal government of the United States should read this book for it exposes this government as a terrible terrorist organization that ensures the unnecessary suffering of its own people because of its obscene marijuana laws.

It is one of many huge wrongs in contemporary civilization. Millions of lives have been destroyed and uncountable millions suffer and even die because of the dangerous pharmaceuticals that are thrust upon the public in place of cannabis. This is a great wrong that needs to be made right and it can only be accomplished through full legalization.

The full therapeutic potential of cannabis can
be realized only when it is completely legal and
people don’t have to go to their doctors to get it.

Study: Passage Of Medical Marijuana Laws Correlated With Fewer Suicides

 http://www.umsl.edu/~keelr/leaf.gif

'The enactment of statewide laws allowing for the limited use of cannabis therapeutically is associated with reduced instances of suicide, according to a discussion paper published recently by the Institute for the Study of Labor in Bonn, Germany.

Researchers at Montana State University, the University of Colorado, and San Diego State University assessed rates of suicide in the years before and after the passage of statewide medical marijuana laws.
